Dalhousie Group of Homes is a small treatment facility specializing in day treatment and play-based therapy. The primary ideology is that each individual possesses an inner strength and beauty, despite the roadblocks that mental health and environmental factors have placed before them. The emphasis is on a holistic approach, and behavioral, organic, and family systems work is incumbent. Dalhousie believes strongly in the effects of the whole unit on the child, and this may include all family members, peers, the community, the environment, and the child's supports, both at home and at school. As such, involvement in treatment planning and implementation closely examines all of these factors. The organization promotes the concept of extended family, through treatment fostering, and the movement to less restrictive placements whenever possible. Dalhousie also maintains a high emphasis on structured activities, and supports the individual to seek outlets for physical, creative, and spiritual expression.
